Our Country Needs To Stop Destroying Families With Prisons, Please Sign Petitions #ShutDownBerks #RefugeeResilience #RightToFamily #RightToReturn #Fix96

Not sure why some in our society is so set on destroying families versus accepting our diverse cultures. This is the mentality behind the conception of the prison industry in the United States of America.
The concept plan, by the British-born architect John Haviland, as a forced monastery, a machine for reform. But he added an impressive touch: a menacing, medieval facade, built to intimidate, that ironically implied that physical punishment took place behind those grim walls. Always a hidden agenda, much like most us people of color learned of the national anthem, thanks to Colin Kaepernick. That is part of the mentality that built Eastern State Penitentiary and was the model for prison all over the world, whose goals were to transform people into what they wanted people to be aka society's robots.

Alexis de Tocqueville visited Eastern State Penitentiary in 1831 with Gustave de Beaumont. They wrote in their report to the French government:

Thrown into solitude... [the prisoner] reflects. Placed alone, in view of his crime, he learns to hate it; and if his soul be not yet surfeited with crime, and thus have lost all taste for any thing better, it is in solitude, where remorse will come to assail him.... Can there be a combination more powerful for reformation than that of a prison which hands over the prisoner to all the trials of solitude, leads him through reflection to remorse, through religion to hope; makes him industrious by the burden of idleness.."

Charles Dickens did not agree. He recounts his 1842 visit to Eastern State Penitentiary Chapter Seven in his travel journal, American Notes for General Circulation. The chapter is titled "Philadelphia and its Solitary Prison:"

In its intention I am well convinced that it is kind, humane, and meant for reformation; but I am persuaded that those who designed this system of Prison Discipline, and those benevolent gentleman who carry it into execution, do not know what it is that they are doing....I hold this slow and daily tampering with the mysteries of the brain to be immeasurably worse than any torture of the body; and because its ghastly signs and tokens are not so palpable to the eye,... and it extorts few cries that human ears can hear; therefore I the more denounce it, as a secret punishment in which slumbering humanity is not roused up to stay.
The critics eventually prevailed. The Pennsylvania System was abandoned in 1913. In some countries in Europe and Asia the separate system continued until the post-Second World War period.

ACLU  Harold Jordan Stop Criminalization of Youth

In 2016 our federal government has decided to stop investing in private prisons and we would like for the Department of Homeland Security to do the same.
“With the Department of Justice phasing out its use of private prisons, the Department of Homeland Security should make clear now that it will not be those companies replacement customer,” said Jacinta Gonzalez, Mijente Field Director on behalf of the Not1More Deportation Campaign. “DHS’ detention system has proven to be cruel and costly. It’s past time that DHS end the practice of detaining immigrants and this review should move it in that direction.  Whether it is in the CCA-run Eloy facility where a series of suspicious deaths sparked hunger strikes and four recent sexual assault cases remain uninvestigated or in the Berks family detention center where refugee mothers demand their freedom, or the trans pods in Santa Ana where detainees face abuse, the country’s detention system represents a major crisis made worse by companies profiting from the suffering of the people kept inside..”

DNC 2016 #NotOneMoreDeportation

Eloy Detention Center is refusing three detainee’s right to investigation into their complaints of sexual assault by guards.

Why is this important?

Eloy Detention Center is refusing detainees the investigation of the sexual assault cases of three detainees: Samuel Magallanes-Rodriquez (A#079-789-297), Octavio Aguilar (A#079-654-111), and Leonardo Rodriquez Gonzalez (A#208-577-846). When submitted, complainant Octavio was placed in solitary confinement. Octavio is on his 9th day of a hunger strike. When Samuel submitted his complaint, Eloy CCA didn’t allow the Eloy police department to investigate and interview witness inside. Leo was stripped down in front of a crowd, humiliated, and fondled.
The common practice at the Eloy Detention Center following a complaint of sexual abuse is to place the complainant in administrative segregation (effectively, solitary confinement). We wish to emphasize the obvious chilling effect of this practice, as detainees are likely to refuse to report abuse for fear that it will result in segregation. Whatever the motive behind such segregation, its punitive, retaliatory effect is obvious.
Immigration detainees are entitled to protections under the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) and ICE’s own guidelines outlined in the 2011 Operation Manual of ICE Detention Standards. Not only is Eloy refusing victim’s right to investigation, victim’s are being punished for reporting sexual assault through administrative segregation.
ICE Phoenix Acting Director Albert Carter and District Attorney John Leonardo, you have the power to assure that Eloy Detention Center is in compliance with PREA guidelines and ICE’s own guidelines, as set forth through the Operations Manual.
We demand an end to administrative segregation as a retaliatory tactic when a victim makes a complaint. We demand the staff involved with Octavio, Samuel, and Leo’s cases be removed from contact with detainees. We demand Eloy CCA immediately allow Eloy PD to fully investigate Samuel’s case.
Please sign to support Octavio, Samuel, and Leo!

Sign the Petition to Shut Down Berks
The Berks Family Detention Center, known as the Berks County Residential Center (BCRC), is a prison for immigrant families, where children as young as two-weeks-old have been incarcerated, along with their parents. On January 27, 2016, after months of community pressure and evidence of human rights abuses at BCRC, including a rape by a guard, labor abuses, and medical neglect of the families and children, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (PA DHS) issued a notice that it would not renew the license for BCRC, effectively ending family detention in Pennsylvania.

The license expired on February 21, 2016 and as of Monday, February 22, BCRC will not only be operating without a license and in direct violation of state law but will also be operating in violation of federal law, following two federal court rulings against the incarceration of families and ordering for their immediate release.

Given the record of inhumane conditions and that operation of BCRC is against state and federal law, we demand that BCRC be immediately shut down. PA DHS should order an Emergency Removal of families while the appeal is in process, the County Commissioners should drop their appeal and stop participating in this painful and inhumane practice,  and ICE should end their policy of family detention and be held accountable for their violation of Federal law. http://vamosjuntos.org/petition-shut-down-berks/
i advocate for the most vulnerable members of our society because i'm tired of the abuse and know that if we can come together we can #endrapeculture aka slave trade aka jim crow aka ice aka colonialism worldwide. The average length of stay in family Detention is 20 days or less, but immigrant mother's along with their children have been held in detention from 270 to 365 days. That is abuse of power from an agency whose license expired 2/21/16. When i get with the right people our production is going to roc the world!! #Not1More human being deported because the powers that be, white, black, orange, yellow......refuse to accept us as human, refuse to accept us for who we are, just not content unless they are in our ass. Why Are Women and Girls The Fastest Growing Prison Population?

Bring Chamroeun home!

On Monday, August 29th 2016, Chamroeun Phan showed up to what he thought would be his normal check in with the immigration office. Upon arrival he was then taken into custody by ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and is currently being detained for questioning by the Cambodian government with the possibility of being deported to Cambodia.  Chamroeun came to this country when he was just a 1 year-old with his parents and siblings as refugees.  Chamroeun was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and has never stepped foot on Cambodian soil.  He is the youngest of 7 and has lived here in the United States all of his life, he is now 33.  In his younger days he made some mistakes with the law which lead to his requirement to meet with immigration on a regular basis but today, Chamroeun is a hardworking man, a loving husband, and great father to his beautiful 4 year old daughter, Leala. He spends his time working to provide for his family and loves to fish on his off time with friends and family.

Dallas 6 Update:

Carrington was packed up and transported last Thursday a week before court.  I called central office to let them know that according to the court order he was to be taken directly to Luzerne bypassing SCI Retreat. Thats not what happened.  Bret Called last Friday to the Superintendent Office at SCI Retreat (Vincent Mooney, Dallas 6 case).  I never heard from him over the weekend so I figure they had him in solitary.  I called first thing Monday to do a safety and wellness check on him. They claim he was okay and they would tell him to call me.  He called me Monday evening and said he was transferred shorty after the time I called.

The problem is from Friday to Monday he was held in a psyche unit with severely mentally ill people and he was inside a cell for people on suicide watch with no covers etc. He never received any paperwork telling him why he was held in there.   When he got to Luzerne, they made a personal call over to say that he is to be held in solitary due to his level, which was a a lie.  Luckily he is able to call me once a day.  He's okay at Luzerne.

Im worried about him being transported back. I am going to call the secretary office tomorrow to remind them that I called on Thursday and what has transpired over the weekend.  They referred me to several people whom I called and never heard from.  If I do not get the answers I want, I may do an action to make sure they do not send him back to Retreat when he is transferred back to Forest.

Besides the Dallas 6 trial he also has a civil hearing another of his default judgements on September 12, so they may keep him there for that.

PLEASE HELP WITH THIS URGENT CALL ALERT FOR MY SON CARRINGTON KEYS
I will be at the state capital on Monday with the Moral Monday protest.  I will be available for phone calls and to answer emails up to 11am.  While there I will be presenting a  letter to the Governor about this urgent call alert and the Dallas 6 case.  Please read below the details of the Call Alert and please share far and wide.  Thank You for your continued support!  ~Shandre 412-403-6101

URGENT CALL ALERT
Facts
Throughout the six years of the Dallas 6 case, Carrington has been retaliated against at SCI Retreat during transport to Luzerne County Prison for court.  Currently, instead of being sent back to his home prison he is inside of a psychiatric unit in a suicide watch cell.  No one will tell him why and he has received no paperwork in explanation.  He is being restricted from calls but used his court order for legal calls to call and notify me of what's happening.  He has been told that he must see a Program Review Committee before he is released from the psyche unit.  This should not be the case as this is not his home jail and he is merely being transported.

Carrington has a long history with SCI Retreat Superintendent Vincent Mooney who tortured him during the 10 years he was in solitary at SCI Mahanoy and SCI Dallas. This is clearly retaliation as carrington has an active legal judgement against SCI Retreat staff; Superintendent Vincent Mooney and Deputy Superintendent for Centralized Services, Kathy Brittain.  They may also be using this time to remove or copy legal documents that may be harmful to them in court.  There are grievances and complaints to confirm the history of this relationship.  Other incidents that occurred while at Retreat
  • being thrown into solitary when he is in general population
  • legal property “lost” or  “missing”, damaged, torn, stomped on
  • attacked within minutes of getting off bus and thrown into solitary
  • denied clean clothing and access to shower, shaving for entire week of court
  • personal property “lost” every time
The Secretary of Prisons office and the judge on the case has been alerted numerous times on this issue and have done nothing to remedy it.  Therefore I am asking the public to make calls.

  • No further retaliation in any way

Background of Dallas 6 Case
The Dallas 6 case began in April 2010.  Long before 2010, there is a history of abuse within the walls of Pennsylvania  prisons that has been documented by Human Rights Coalition.  Prisoners decided to do something about that and began sharing information with HRC about ongoing abuse and inhumane conditions at SCI Dallas.  That information was compiled into a report which a copy of was intercepted by prison staff at SCI Dallas who immediately began a brutal beating rampage against prisoners at SCI Dallas.  Prisoners held a peaceful protest by covering their cell windows.  They were cell extracted and brutally beaten.  After the brutal beating, charges were filed against the DOC and the District Attorney of Luzerne County.  To cover up their crimes and in retaliation, four months later, the DOC charged 6 of the protesters with riot and one of the six, Carrington Keys, with assault.  The case took 6 years to prosecute and the riot charges have been dropped after a hung jury.  The jury could not unanimously find the men guilty of riot or Carrington Keys guilty of assault.  The court has now re-filed assault charges against Carrington Keys and pre-trial hearing will be held on December 5, 2016.  Carrington Keys was, and still is a target due to compiling a long history of grievances, complaints and lawsuits against DOC staff who are complicit in human rights violations and brutal assaults against prisoner..   It is believed Mr. Keys is being retried on the assault charges because of the active lawsuits against several of the officers involved in Dallas 6 as well as the District Attorney.  For more information and to learn how you can help - http://scidallas6.blogspot.com/
