Let's End The Us And Them Mentalities aka Racial Profiling

I wonder if being married to a African American women has anything to do with what is going on in New York and the police showing so much disrespect to Mayor Bill DeBlasio. New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton said it was "very inappropriate" for officers to turn their backs on New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio at the funeral for slain NYPD Officer Rafael Ramos. It was the second time officers had done so since the slaying of two NYPD cops.

"That funeral was held to honor Officer Ramos, and to bring politics, to bring issues into that event I think was very inappropriate and I do not support it. He is the mayor of New York, he was there representing the citizens of New York to express their remorse and their regret at that death," Bratton said on CBS' "Face the Nation."
"At the same time it is reflective unfortunately of the feelings of some of our officers at this juncture about not just the mayor but I think about some of the many issues that are afflicting the city at this time and this particular police department," he added.

Tensions have been running high between DeBlasio and some of the city's police officers since Ramos and another officer, Wenjian Liu, were shot and killed in their patrol car earlier this month. Police union officials blamed DeBlasio for their deaths, in part because of his public support for people protesting grand jury decisions not to indict police officers who had killed two black men, Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

The tensions running through our nation is deeply rooted in quite kept derogatory racist practice. The Fraternal Order of Police was supposed to be organized to serve and protect us taxpayers not judge and kill us. Racism is such an ugly practice and detrimental when that practice becomes the fuel that creates self centered laws. Racism creates the us and them mentality. There are good people and bad people, good police officers and bad police officers. Black New York City Police officers often think that they are being racially profiled by their white colleagues, according to a shocking new report by Reuters.
The wire service interviewed 25 black male officers, ten current cops and 15 retired. With just one exception, they said that they have been victims of racial profiling by police, both when wearing the uniform and while off duty. For its article, Reuters identified racial profiling as “using race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed a crime.”
In the article, Reuters equates what they experience as the same type of racial profiling that cost Eric Garner his life after he was swarmed by police officers and one applied a choke hold to him.
The black police officers said their experiences included being pulled over by police for no reason (multiple times for most), being stopped and frisked, thrown into prison vans, and being physically assaulted and threatened. Black cops say that they’ve had their heads slammed against vehicles and guns brandished in their faces.
“The black officers interviewed said they had been racially profiled by white officers exclusively, and about one third said they made some form of complaint to a supervisor.”
“All but one said their supervisors either dismissed the complaints or retaliated against them by denying them overtime, choice assignments, or promotions. The remaining officers who made no complaints said they refrained from doing so either because they feared retribution or because they saw racial profiling as part of the system.”

Sick how rules and expectations change based on skin color. I support Mayor DeBlasio for being a leader of the people who elected him. The disrespect he is going through is the direct result of him taking a stand against the quite kept racist icebergs haunting our great country. As the funeral for Rafael Ramos, one of two New York City police officers killed Dec. 20, was winding down in New York. Rally leaders decried those killings and said demonstrators were focused on improving policing practices and police-community relations, not on protesting against police per se.
Imam Abdul Malik, who delivered an impassioned call for community empowerment in taking charge of education and economic development, called the New York killings evil.
"We have to recognize that life is sacred in all of its forms, and that killing men and women in uniform is a crime, it's unacceptable, and it's evil. And shooting unarmed civilians . . . is also unacceptable, and evil, unless it's justifiable, and that's, of course, in the sense of self-defense," Malik said in an interview. "I'm not for putting the police against the people and the people against the police. We're all one people." I hope that Mayor Michael Nutter takes a stand along with Commissioner Ramsey and opens this conversation up Philadelphia Convention Style, allowing the citizens of Philadelphia to meet in a central location and create an accountable police force in our city. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey was one of two people appointed by President Barack Obama today to chair President Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing, according to a news release from the White House.
The task force will include community leaders and law enforcement representatives. It will examine how to build public trust and how to effectively promote crime reduction, the release said. I hope our District Attorney Seth Williams is also included in this justice reform. He has not turned a blind eye to the corruption going on with some of our elected officials and judges. Our D.A. Seth Williams meets with the community and is building relationships that produce safe and productive communities. "Everything we do in the Philadelphia district attorney's office … is to ensure that the public respects what we do," Williams said.

Discovering Facts That Uncover Police Misconduct Icebergs

Yes this post is personal for me, i scream and shout against Stop and Frisk, ICE, Police Misconduct of all forms and for Justice Reform TO PREVENT BECOMING A VICTIM. My first march against police misconduct was Father's Day, June 17th, 2012 the Children's Defense Fund-New York  joined George Gresham, President of 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and the Children's Defense Fund national board member, Ben Jealous, President and CEO of the NAACP, Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network, other advocates, elected officials, union leaders, and citizens to mount a silent march down Fifth Avenue to protest the New York City Police Department's harsh stop and frisk policy. George Gresham said: "Stop and frisk poses a real danger to our children and communities. The NYPD's stop and frisk policy has led to rampant racial profiling and the people of New York City must not stand for it. For the safety of all our children, we must speak out against this unjust policy. This is an issue for all people of color and all people of conscience." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marian-wright-edelman/time-to-stop-stop-and-fri_b_1546906.html?ref=crime&ir=Crime

Yet my family have become victims of police brutality. My youngest son doesn't go out much any more after the shocking evening of December 8th 2014. My 21 year old son was approached by an officer, who asked him if he had a gun, my son said no (because he didn't have a gun) and started walking. He said the officer asked him again and that is when he became frightened and ran. He slipped and the officer caught him, radio into his unit that he "got em" then beat the life out of my boy, put him in Einstein hospital Intensive Care Unit on a Breathing Machine. I called Ms. Paula Peebles Pennsylvania, Chair of The National Action Network. "I can't believe I'm making this call, but the police put my son in Einstein Intensive Care Unit not a jail cell if they had reason." Mr. Matthew Smith Philadelphia NAN Vice President, was at the hospital before me.

So now the police brutality has hit home and i too am in shock and wondering what type of people take an oath to serve and protect, yet totally disregards all lives as humans that matter. How did the us against them mentality become our reality. i learn from retired police Capt. Ray Lewis, "One of the aspects of a personality is a degree of sensitivity and compassion," he said. "Unfortunately, they do not hire those people that score high on sensitivity. They reject them believing those people will quit because they can't handle the blood and guts on the street. They view that as wasted training money. "What they don't realize is that hiring the insensitive individual is going to result in brutality cases, and when those cases go to court, that's where they lose millions," Lewis said. "It's pennywise and pound foolish."http://www.philly.com/philly/news/Ex-

December 29th 2014, i'm at the liberty bell waiting for several scheduled interviews to show. They didn't but i was able to snap some photos and join a rally demanding justice for Brandon Tate Brown. Learned from Ms. Brown that the police can create laws that protect their mentality oops i mean their actions. WHAT PAUSE PUMP DA BRAKES are you telling me the police have order above the call of duty to serve and protect all.

How is justice reform ? What does Justice Reform look like ? I hear demands, now how do we change the laws and what would we like for the laws to say?

As much as i scream and shout on this issue, we do not want to publicly speak much about how my family cringe when we see the police. my heart beats fast and thoughts of them over powering and beating us runs through our minds. Horrible nightmare we are living in low income, poorly educated and economically disadvantage communities. Where is The Liberty?

CHANGING DEROGATORY FOR ALL

I started advocating because i enjoy civic responsibility. i didn't realize that my passion to be part of our society would mold me into a world wide social reform advocate . Putting together a longitudinal documentary about various issues and concerns has opened my eyes to the various levels of abuse and the cultures that allow and promote such abuse.

All the issues are important to me because of the ripple effect. i am focusing on the mentalities behind these acts, how can we do more than post on social media and host events that raise awareness?Continue the conversation and please don't ignore the signs. The conversation and platform is developing lets pull together to erase the derogatory. The mentality changes begin when we stop pretending and accept personal and societal responsibility much like the NFL "No More" campaign http://nomore.org/nflplayerspsa/ .

Wrapping UP Part 1

your just a frame
we are no way
 from the same
i make them
oooooooooOOOOOOOH
say my name

been creating a documentary to document my life and efforts to bring meaning to my life as i see. so  i started out with a show, "Red Hen Exploring Our Conditions" airing on a local philly cable station. Great experience creating and producing studio and other settings shows. Best part was learning the good, the bad, the desire to be heard but not know how to or who to talk to. Crazy how so many are tired of the pretend life they live but are so afraid to express themselves: just because. I am always excited about sharing information that will enhance others in some way. Crazy part is how many will love what i do and pretend to like me, will try to steal what's mines but they are not me so they cannot take what belongs to me. i assist soo many just to be stabbed in the back. their problem not mines.

my focus is always education, i started as a parent advocate who went against the machine, so you know what all kinds of hell that brings, licking my lips blowing my nails!! i went to d.c. for a national protest against the charter school movement. recorded and aired the march, i really like that piece, wonder how many of us are still fighting that fight for transparent, accountable public education? not all the bullshit that is being fed to the masses!!

i no longer advocate as a parent because my son was kicked out of germantown high school by a corrupt administration. there are plans to now turn the public treasure, oops the private treasure into a charter school. how funny, by time things are done the school will probably be some city wide reform school. will see. public education is a business i will have to accept that some day. divide and conquer.

so i inform folks about educational opportunities and am studying early childhood education because after all the advocacy the way to not build prisons is to educate our families and communities. when the governor believes that building prison communities is more important than safe residential communities analyzing what the fuck is going on pushes me to examine my past and see how i can assist in building safe productive communities. fortunately we have a new governor in pennsylvania and all we can do is hope for the best.

docudrama coming soon!!

Community Can Build Pride In Low Income Communities

We Could Be King is a celebration of the power of sports to bring young people, neighborhoods and a city together.” – Tribeca Film Festival

I was giving the heads up about this documentary viewing at The University of Pennsylvania from I’m FREE Females Reentering Empowering Each Other, i volunteer with the organization and have been recording their work. So happy that i attended the viewing of “We Could Be King”
Judd Ehrlich, Director & Producer
and was able to see the power of community support that leads to family school pride. I cried several times.

Homecoming weekend on the campus of The University of Pennsylvania is very busy with Penn pride being exhibited in numerous ways. The film festival featuring “We Could Be King” was the idea of Lauren Ruskin Hobart, C’90, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, DICK’S Sporting Goods. Ms. Hobart expressed that businesses have a moral obligation to get involved with our schools. Her interest in creating the documentary was to show the importance of sports in schools. DICK’s Sporting Goods and Tribeca Films has donated $250,000 to The School District of Philadelphia as part of the “Sports Matter” campaign. https://sportsmatter.com/dicks-sporting-goods-foundation

King high school had to merge with rival Germantown high school so there was concern about safety at the school. Of course there were challenges, but experienced William C. Wade, Principal, Educational Administration/Turnaround Specialist, Martin Luther King High had plans and motivation for the high school. The merge of the two schools is behind them. Their school culture is now focused on engaging our youth to the road of safe and productive lifestyles.

Football along with other interest activities assist in building a school that students want to attend and feel pride. Emmanual (Manny) Clark, Student/Wide Receiver, MLK High School responded to an audience member who is opposed to football being in schools, Manny stated “football built character in him and his team mates, and was what kept them on the right path.” Ed Dunn, Varsity Head Coach, Martin Luther King High was the assistant coach at Germantown high school who volunteered to coach at King. Coach Dunn and his staff are those special folks in our community that help create safe productive communities.

Family School Pride Resource Josten Pride

Helping students prepare for their future.

Commitment to Graduate

One of the morals that i learned growing up was that we are to assist when we see the need. Some define this as charity others view assisting others as part of our purpose in life. Researching for this post i came across a great company that truly exemplifies the pride and spirit in giving back to the community that they reside. Businesses small and large in our communities are great resources often untapped for the lack of reaching out to understand each others needs.

I was so happy when i found the website of Josten a company who specializes in creating memories for schools via, yearbooks, class rings ….  and have been assisting in creating these memories since 1897. I see nothing but pride in the company and the work they do for our communities. Not only do they create great jewelry they also created some awareness campaigns that help families and schools with cyberbullying, school climate, pause before you post and so many great resources to assist in building school pride.
