#StadiumStompers Aren't Allowing #TempleUniversity To Destroy North Philadelphia

Gentrification In Strawberry Mansion

There's a land and property fight taking place in North Philadelphia. Temple University wants to erect a 35,000 seats football stadium in the predominately African-American residential community between Broad and Diamond to Montgomery Street. Residents, Temple students, alumni and staff along with various clergy organizations are opposing Temple's plan without the community.

i'm from the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia, 30th and Diamond area. My opposition to the proposed stadium is to not destroy our African-American communities. If Temple were successful in building that stadium then most of Diamond street would be up for grabs and my memories and culture would be deleted from the fabric of Philadelphia. We have endured so much and don't want to lose anymore of ourselves or community to this gentrification aka colonialism aka breakdown of our legacies, mental, physical and financial health.

Temple's President Richard Englert at the Temple town hall meeting, March 6, 2018 stated that no resident will be relocated, then stated that 15th Street will be closed. Where's the communication between community and university? Where's the trust?

Stadium Stompers are prepared to stand, sit or lay down to stop the dismantling of our community. We are looking to replace members of city council who choose to ignore the needs of our community for corporate take overs. We are sick and tired of being sick and tired by others desires for us and our community. This fight is bridging #UnityInOurCommunity. The type of #Unity we have not seen since the days of #PhiladelphiaFreedomFighters and Dr. Martin Luther King.

Barbara McDowill Dowdall Girls High Graduate and Educator received her teaching credential from Temple University. Her family graduated from Temple University and Barbara is not happy with Temple's direction!!
