Divide And Conquer Tactics Used For Cindy Bass Stop And Go Bill

Digging for votes, playing into the powers that can't handle the diversity in our communities. Those who want to impose their values and beliefs through politics and ignore our cultural differences. Way to go City Councilwoman Cindy Bass using divide and conquer methods to attack small businesses that aren't hurting anyone while you allow big air polluting companies to enter our city and destroy our cities air quality.

When will we as mature adults wake up and take a stand for our rights and comforts. We know what, who and how goes on in our communities. These attacks are on our right to have access to adult drinks in adult settings that also provide snacks for adults to enjoy. Not sure about you but i frequent Stop & Go and there are never any children in those stores. The store is labeled as an adult drinking establishment that adults like myself want access to. The argument of Plexiglas was used to say that the Plexiglas is the barrier creating so much of the chaos in the community. If business have to use Plexiglas then they don't need to be in our communities was part of that argument. My thought was does that goes for mom and pop pharmacies as well? The barrier is actually protecting the ability for adults to have access to adult drinks and relax from the chaos often caused by neglectful elected officials.

Now the argument is that the business is an eating establishment and should have proper seating and restrooms. What customer asked for this?  We can frequent Lou & Choo's or Mr. Hooks on Germantown Ave. if that is the atmosphere we are looking for. Who are the we that want this? Probably the same folks who have problems with McDonald's being a hang out for our youth when they should be in school. Whose concern is this? If this is the argument then the next one will be we don't like the people who frequent these establishments. Which is truly part of the bottom line of this bill playing for super voters. That and that some are creating great economics for their families and don't have to endure corporate or nonprofit headaches.

Divide & Conquer Tactics:
1. Play on the tension between the cultures of Asian store owners and African Americans
2.Bully the small business that aren't hurting anybody and puts them self in danger
3.Create Fake Arguments about how the small business operates
4.Change The Bill so that only the target gets the blow
5.Never Talked to consumers, community or business owners together to resolve the issue until the bill was on it's way to introduction which means there is no talking with those affected by the bullshit bill.

444 #TheBestConcertEver

December 1, 2017 444 @ Wells Fargo Center Philadelphia

Are you a JayZ fan? If so you do not want to miss his best performance to date!! Your not a JayZ fan, you really should attend this magnificent show and see why, we his fans love and support him!! December 1, 2017 the Wells Fargo Center was filled with ballers, pumps and JayZ excitement. So many sexy gray beards were at 444 and that made me feel so good, because we are hip hop and hip hop doesn't grow old!!

9pm we hear JayZ say, okay, y'all ready!! Those of us flaunting in the hallways move to our seats. The arena is packed and all eyes are facing the center of the floor hosting movie screens surrounding the all black circular stage. The screens rise and JayZ begins to perform to a screaming crowd. All around we are partying and rocking with the greatest. JayZ in transition for another set leaves the stage and i can't stop bouncing to his music. i'm literally dancing to his voice in my head waiting for him to take the stage again.

Midway through the 444 concert, JayZ spreads words of hope and encouragement. He talks about the young compulsive JayZ and what he said in some of his songs. He shares with us that he is in therapy, and working on his mental health. He gives love to the standing and fallen. Showed much love and support for Meek Mills and the advocates who do the work!!

11pm, screens begin to rise and i'm like no, i don't want this night to end. The stage is lowered so that JayZ and his band are on the same level. He walks off the stage shaking fans hands, after extending his time with us. Really wish i could follow 444 and the remaining dates. i'm vested in JayZ because he is vested in us!! We need more JayZ concerts!!

The Rush is on for this #SneakyACARepeal, Please Call Your Senators Today!!

Both plans eliminate personal exemptions. The exemption currently allows taxpayers to subtract $4,050 from income for each person claimed on the tax return. Families with many children would pay higher taxes despite the increased standard deductions. For example, a married couple with two children making $56,000 a year would pay $68 a year morehttps://www.thebalance.com/trump-s-tax-plan-how-it-affects-you-4113968

#TheComeBack will be depletion of resources supporting our most vulnerable members of society. #SneakyACARepeal is being proposed as a tax cut for corporate america as if the fact that they are rich with benefits that those of us who are considered poor see as vital resources. Wait a minute……. this #TaxScam is another camouflaged attack on our natural resources and caretaking services. Can’t get bills passed to repeal ObamaCare so they plan the sneak attack as if we are not following the money and vote.

The proposed tax cuts for the wealthy should have AARP and all who qualify for Medicaid and Medicare contacting their Senators and let them know their story of working for the retirement and Medicaid, Medicare is part of that package deal. Our country has been working against the vulnerable for to long and we no longer stand by, lay down or allow congress to sign into legislation that does not work in favor for all members of our society.

We have to create a congress that works for the people and not personhood. We do not want to have to reverse the damage of these scandalous tax cuts. We currently live in food deserts and reversing that damage is challenging. Imagine no health care, no food support, no schools or libraries in our communities. Know that those assets are the target of this #SneakyRepeal. Please call your Senator today and join a rally near you, adding your voice to keeping our resources.

Weaving Our Communities Together With "Trash To Treasure Urban Tapestry" Artist Kathyrn Pannepacker

There is quite a bit of weaving going in on in Germantown, Philadelphia,  Pennsylvania!! We have two large looms at Awbury Aboretum weaving earth products together and i learned yesterday about Artist Kathyrn Pannepacker homemade loom being used to weave the Germantown community together!!

My grandson Dondrae and i were on our way to The Please Touch Museum when i saw the weave on the corner of Germantown and Chelten Ave. without Artist Kathryn. I saw yarn up there and wanted to weave but choose to wait til i can see who is behind the weave and what's the purpose for the weave. On our way back from The Please Touch Museum we saw Kathryn working on the piece and got off of bus K to investigate the project.

"Trash To Treasure Urban Tapestry" is taking place at Chelten And Germantown Ave. A open art installation that invites the community to weave some yarn or trash into the tapestry that will be donated to a community center. This is a great way to bring people into the conversation about community and learn the craft of weaving.  We weaved a Best Bye split top wheat bread plastic bag that we used for our lunch bag during our museum visit. Recycling is what we do!! Please join us Thursday, October 26th & Friday October, 27th 10am-4pm to complete the project and the loom cutting celebration!!

There is another preservation project going and Germantown is the only finalist from Pennsylvania and needs your vote to receive up to $150,000 in funding from American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The funds will repair and restore properties significant to African-American hertiage in Germantown shopping district.
Please visit www.voteyourmainstreet.org/germantown, select Germantown project and place 5 votes from now til the end of October!! #VoteGermantown

#EndICE And The So Called "Safe City" Camouflaged One Sided War on Our Most Vulnerable Members of Society

We don't need Donald's Trump Mexican wall of separation. He is doing a horrible job as the elected leader of our country. In fact he is only good at destroying families much like the fashion of Willie Lynch. We need understanding of one another's difference and the history of rape culture employed by this country. These attacks on immigrants via #OperationSafeCity is another example of vulnerable citizens being plotted on for the private industry gains.

1. Build unnecessary policing units
2. Create fake welfare systems
3. Create abusive foster care programs
4. Half educate the most vulnerable
5. Offer poor living and working conditions
6.............................

"We are celebrating the strength of our ancestors, the strength of Divine Protection and the strength of folks who have been detained and have contributed in so many ways to their communities."
"Estamos celebrando la fortaleza de nuestros antepasados, de la Proteccion Divina de aquellas personas que han sido detenidas y han contribuido tremendamente a comunidades"

The attacks on Sanctuary cities are going down.  Peter Pedemonti of Philadelphia New Sanctuary Movement states "This operation by ICE is really brutal, it really feels like retaliation. I believe that polices across the country were having an impact and were reducing deportations and ICE has been fighting that"

October 5th, The New Sanctuary Movement held a vigil adjacent to the new ICE office which is across the street from the Philadelphia police headquarters and shares the same building as Liberty Resources who provides life sustaining resources to some of our most vulnerable members of society. During the vigil we opposed the horrific treatment immigrants are facing under the Trump administration. ICE agents are equivalent to the origination of today's police squads. On the hunt for those labeled unfit to be in our country. Totally illegal fear tactics are being put into place in Sanctuary cities who refuse to go back in time with derogatory discriminating practices of destroying families, communities and the fabric of our country.
We need a major coming together to understand how "ICE" and "Stop And Frisk" are the same. We need some major organizing to bring all communities together to understand how these illegal practice affect us all. #HumansInvolved #EndRapeCulture

Call your State Senator and Governor Wolf:  Republican leadership is pushing for a veto-proof majority, so we really need our Senators to hear from each and every one of you. Tell your Senator to vote no on HB 1885, the Anti-Sanctuary Bill.  You can find your State Senator here.  Then please call Governor Wolf at 717-787-2500 and tell him to veto the bill.

In the face of the Trump Administration’s extremist anti-immigrant agenda, Sanctuary in the Streets draws on our ancient traditions to respond with courage, spirit and bold action. Since a family cannot seek Sanctuary in a congregation if their house is raided, we will bring the congregation to them by holding an interfaith service. An internal memo in ICE prevents officers from conducting enforcement in sensitive locations, such as congregations, schools, and hospitals. The interfaith service claims the space as holy ground, as a place of worship, and therefore ICE should not conduct enforcement.  An interfaith service also sets the tone of the action as peaceful and prayerful. In this dark time people of faith must increase our light – by lifting up, and living out, our values of love and radical hospitality. Read our 2017 Statement on Sanctuary.
We have two raid hotlines that are staffed 24/7: 267-333-9530 (English/Spanish) and 267-345-5248 (English/Indonesian). When immigrants call to report an ICE raid, staff will send an emergency alert to all trained members of Sanctuary in the Streets and activate our raid response system. For more information, please email maria@sanctuaryphiladelphia.org.

Sign up for a future Sanctuary in the Streets training.
Sanctuary in the Streets goals:

  • Stand in solidarity and accompany families targeted by raids
  • Prayerfully disrupt raids – we will bring our presence, songs, prayers, and bodies to peacefully and prayerfully disrupt a raid.
  • Put public pressure on ICE and the Trump Administration to stop all raids and deportations.  These raids violate our values and we will not stand silent when ICE comes into a neighborhood and takes tares apart families. This action will shine a light on raids and uncover the persecution of immigrant communities in the US today.
  • Raids and the threat of raids send a wave of terror through the immigrant community.  Sanctuary in the Streets counters this with a message of hope, faith and planned action in immigrant communities.
See our Sanctuary in the Streets Guide – Feb 2017 for more details.

Juntos is hosting Know Your Rights Trainings and Door Knocking to inform people of their rights.

This Fall Juntos is building a Community Resistance Zone. Given the attacks on our community, the only way to have a "Safe City" is one that is actively resisting against the criminalization of our families. Community Resistance Zones are built by educating everyone in our neighborhoods on their rights and on how to protect their neighbors from raids and racial profiling by Police and ICE. Please join us in fighting back by building out a South Philadelphia Community Resistance Zone on Saturday Nov. 11 and Sunday November 12th. http://vamosjuntos.org/volunteer/

Septa Is Being Reckless With Our Future Air Quality and #350Philly Is Holding Them Accountable

September 28th members of 350 Philly addressed their concerns about the proposed and illegally started Nicetown natural gas plant during Septa public board meeting. 350 Philly is working to hold Septa future facility plans accountable to our communities.

Tammy Murphy, Medical Outreach Coordinator at Philadelphia Physicians for Social Responsibility explained the new obligations created for Septa under the recent PA Environmental Rights Amendment. Tammy stated that Septa is obligated to respect people’s right to clean air, and to "conserve and maintain" PA's "public natural resources"  for the "benefit of all people," including future generations. She asserted that building this natural gas power plant--especially without first conducting a full health impact study and a comprehensive analysis of alternatives--would violate the rights enshrined in the PA Constitution.

1.       It appears that contractors are laying a foundation for the gas plant prior to AMS granting a permit.
2.       Any construction work that serves to create a permanent structure for a facility that will pollute the area is illegal until air quality regulators issue a permit for that facility.

"Mitch Chain 350 Philly"

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportataion authority August and Year to date results of operations, Passenger revenue was $3 million lower than budget. Septa acquired ownership of portions of the former Reading Railroad and Penn Central Railroad systems in 1976 with utility licenses with rental payments with PECO. These utiliy licenses are expired. Septa submitted demands to PECO to enter into a new licenses. so please stop telling me SEPTA is beign forced by PECO to build the gas plant in nicetown.Great jobPeter Winslow, and Tammy Murphy from Philadelphia Physicians for Social Responsibility and all of 350 Philadelphia

Plenty of Free Family Fun With Nature Play Going On In Philly

"Learning Without Love Will Not Stick. But If Love Comes First, Learning Is Sure To Follow."John Burroughs

Family exposure is key to building our youth and families. Nature Play is key in human development for various reasons. Most importantly nature play connects the family to the natural environment and promotes our responsibility to nature. In Philadelphia you don't have to be a consumer to have fun. Don't have to join expensive competitive sports teams or museums to have fun and grow. Just need to "Rethink Our Norms" and get back to basic life skills and fun. Fun with nature happens all around us but if you are looking for some free nature inspiration then you may want to visit some of Philadelphia's great nature play based facilities.

I use the concrete jungle to teach our youth about culture, shapes and color when we walk through the community. When we visit Smith Memorial Playground i allow youth to play on the slide and other fun play apparatus. Before we leave i take them to the Nature play area and they really become creative once we get to that section of the playground. Creativity sparks their imagination when they get to digging in the dirt and exploring the natural setting. We pretend we are digging for lost treasures or build with the sticks, rocks, leaves and dirt. We could buy those items but why when we can do that for free in our yard, park or nature based facilities. Yes i play with our youth and love to play!!

What's Going On At Strawberry Mansion High School?

What is The School District of Philadelphia up to now with Strawberry Mansion high school is the question members of the Strawberry Mansion community and public school advocates are wondering.  During a recent SRC meeting the district approved a contract with NET treatment center to provide resources for the community. In the language of the approval was also stated that the district was looking to turn Strawberry Mansion into a community school.

Renewal of Lease Agreement with Northeast Treatment Center
– L. P. Hill School
"Description: The School District of Philadelphia is exploring the idea of transforming existing school buildings into “community schools”. In a community school, resources of the school and community are organized to promote student success. While the primary focus is on students, community schools are intended to be centers of activity that promote partnerships which benefit all members of the neighborhood.
One such partnership has developed in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city, where the U.S. Attorney’s Office has worked with Strawberry Mansion High School to implement violence prevention programs. To advance these programs, and to incorporate additional partnerships with the community, the School District intends to lease space at the closed Leslie Pinckney Hill Elementary School building (“LP Hill School”), located at 3133 Ridge Avenue adjacent to Strawberry Mansion High School, to additional community service agencies.
The LP Hill School was closed by the School District as of August, 2013. LP Hill School’s location adjacent to and partially connected with Strawberry Mansion High School renders it difficult or impossible to sell as a separate building, but the buildings have enough separation that LP Hill could be used for purposes other than education.
The benefits to the School District, Strawberry Mansion High School and the community include the following:
1. The building will be occupied and overhead expenses of the School District in maintaining and securing the building will be defrayed.
2. Programs offered will benefit the families of the students attending Strawberry Mansion High School as well as the surrounding community.
3. Programs will be able to take advantage of bringing together entities with similar missions and, in some cases, funding sources, that will encourage collaboration and growth to assure that the community is efficiently and effectively served."

Wednesday, August 16, 2017 a meeting of stakeholders was held at Strawberry Mansion with SAC member Tanya Parker, Eric Becoats from the district, The new principal Dr. Tony Oyola, several of his staff, a member from State Rep. Donna Bullock office, several alumni, Strawberry Mansion business owners, Lisa Haver and Tonya Bah from APPS. We met for an hour and half discussing a possible partnership with Camelot. Camelot was not at the table nor was the contract that was made three months ago with Camelot at the table for those of us in attendance to view. I asked if Strawberry Mansion was being considered as a community school and was told that according to Mayor Kenney list of schools, Strawberry Mansion high school was not being considered as a community school.

Mr. Becoats and Dr. Tony Oyola gave Camelot a tour of Strawberry Mansion. Dr. Oyola was impressed with Camelot and feels that sharing the building with Camelot is a good idea because those students could possibly feed into the high school. Camelot is proposing to open their first middle school at Strawberry Mansion. The middle school serving grades 6, 7 and 8 would be made up of high school aged students who have been left back. These students would be offered accelerated lessons to get them into their proper grade. There is no guarantee that the Camelot students would enroll in Strawberry Mansion high school or that the students enrolled in Camelot would be from the Strawberry Mansion community.

Concerns from the stakeholders attending the meeting were what's going on with our existing students at Strawberry Mansion high school and can the community partner with the existing administration asked Mr. Melvin Sharpe. Mr. Sharpe was there with Brother Haji Salim A. Ali founder of Strawberry Mansion Tennis and asked if they could start a Tennis program at the high school. Principal Oyola said yes they could. Other concerns were the catchment area of the students. Being that Camelot is a private company can we have the contract read that the students will be from Strawberry Mansion? Can we meet with Camelot to discuss their plans and our desires? If the community decides to okay Camelot coming into the school can we revisit the contract yearly to hold Camelot accountable and transparent. If the Camelot youth start trouble, that will be reflected on Strawberry Mansion high school and not Camelot. How will that concern be addressed? Will their students get the same supports once in high school? If Camelot plans to bring middle school students who should be in high school to Strawberry Mansion, who is to say that they won't look to take over Strawberry Mansion if their students are feeding the high school. We all asked to see the contract that was created without community input. And was told that the contract would be emailed to us. None of us have gotten a copy of the contract as of yet.

CREATING POSITIVE CHANGE & VALUE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS

Camelot Education is a contributing partner and value-added resource to the communities we serve. Our students and staff work with community leaders, families and educators to create value and positive change. Together we strengthen and improve the communities we serve.
During the August 17th, 2017 SRC meeting former principal Linda Cliatt-Wayman stated that she was told by Dr. Byrd that Camelot would not be moving into Strawberry Mansion. Mrs. Wayman expressed her concern for her students and refernced the students as her babies and that having Camelot in Strawberry Mansion is a bad idea. This link will take you to Mrs. Wayman statement to the SRC as well as Lisa Haver and Karel Kilimnik questioning about Strawberry Mansion. https://vimeopro.com/user3379601/src-meeting-august-17-2017-raw-footage
Video by APPSPhilly Ken Derstine

There was also a request to have a town hall meeting where we could have more community input on this concern. Camelot needs to meet with the community and not just the district. Our community is looking to heal and not accelerate to what others feel we should be.

Elijah Woodmount Are you talking about the Caucasian race or the term white people?

The Caucasin race comes from the caucus mountain in middle eurasia. Little know fact in the USA. Middle eastern people are actually of the Caucasian race. They are considered Caucasian

Seda Jaan Elijah, actually, Caucasian people are different from Middle Eastern people, a group which includes Arabs, who are Semites. In contrast, Armenians, for example, are Caucasian, but neither European nor Semitic.

We're kinda just our own people... no on

Elijah Woodmount I was saying as far as science is concerned it's the same grand race. Different cultures and sub racial categories, but Caucasian, based on bone structured et cetera.

Elijah Woodmount But you are right in that Europeans subjegatited people that looked like them as well and didn't accept everyone.

Plus they're are people of multiracial backgrounds, which we all are.
Manage
Seda Jaan Elijah I can admit that I may have been taught a biased viewpoint... even in science, but to my knowledge, at least for Armenians, the bone structure etc is also different.

Elijah Woodmount But recently there was a push in the states to add middle eastern, Arab et cetera to ethnicity categories.

Here we have white, black, native American , Pacific islanders and Asian to choose from as race and Hispanic or nor Hispanic as ethnicity.

Seda Jaan I think keeping a census could be of benefit, but I don't trust that the intent we are presented with is genuine. For that reason, I always choose "other" if the option exists. I will choose to not answer if that option exists. If I can't pick either of those, I will choose a random minority (usually whichever is most marginalized).

Shaundra Gail Lamkin Its a long story but the theory is that humans all originated from Africa but it looked very different then. The earth changed do to volcanic activity and there was an ice age for millions of years and some genes in humans mutated to survive that period of time. Whiter skin would be a benefit under those circumstances. I believe that falls under the Darwin theory of evolution.

Glorious Doublek White folks are an invention. Which is to say that given time and great effort, white folks can actually abandon whiteness as an invention and social stratification and join humanity.

Shaundra Gail Lamkin I was just referring to the bathroom selfie comment Thomas Estergaard. And I agree with archeology findings as well as geological science. Volcanic activity separated not only continents and created new landmasses, but humans were also stranded on these new landmasses. We all share the same ancestors at the end of the day.

Thomas Estergaard I disagree with this statement. Most white people do not know history because they are not taught truths in high school, or college that predates 1492 when Columbus "discovered" the Americas. They are schooled in white supremacist colonial isolationism that is based on the manifest destiny theory. However....some white people study cultural diffusioinism, which is all of human history

No one knows European history more than I. After all my ancestors were the Iberians.

White people colonized and continue to colonize everyone with money, war, and power. You can't marry or friend away Colonialism. It must be dismantled by everyone.

Sunny Michael Yea, the term white was invented in 1601 by the queen and the white Vatican (it was white then, conquered ). This was thanking white people for being good slave's and helping them build their empire (the slavic barbarians and germanic barbarians ).
Anyway it's surface layered privilege, privilege really means slave.

Ed Deontic Mushin Negative. White People are not from Africa. As in, they are not creations of Africa, not created for Africa.

All living things adapt to their environments. There is too much Sun that shines across that continent for them to be from Africa.

Science says, they are the product of mutated genes, also they (many) have the Rh positive blood antigen of the Rhesus Monkey. Which Africans do not have.

Scott La Rock .
"Divide and Conquer" - a military strategy used to maintain power; a technique employed by oppressors throughout history to keep subjects ("us") in a divided mentality. A divided people cannot properly communicate with each other (just read some of these comments), properly band together, or cooperate to change an unbalanced, corrupt status quo. Those of "us" who understand divide and conquer as a tactic are free from it and work to free others. Those who don't don't; they just continue wasting their present arguing over a divided past. And the powers that be sit back, laugh and grow wealthier. That is what's truly sad.

Anyone who wants to continue living in a divided mentality, in an 'us-and-them' world is welcome to do so. That's your personal right. You have just as much right to continue living and spreading your divisiveness & separation as I do to continue living and spreading my progress & unity. I ain't mad at ya... just wish more people would wake up.
♡ Have a powerful day!

Following the July 2009 arrest of Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates, on the front porch of his own home by Cambridge Police Sergeant, James Crowley, President Obama invited the two men to the White House for a meeting over beer to discuss the incident. This year marks the ninth anniversary of Obama's "Beer Summit."
At the same time in Philadelphia, Global Citizen held its own Beer Summit in Center City for concerned citizens to meet, mingle, and discuss race relations in both our city and throughout America.
On Wednesday, July 26th we will continue our discussion about race, class and power with the 9th annual Global Citizen Beer Summit and will discuss how we all can overcome the barriers that have continued to divide so many.
Beer, soft drinks and snacks will be provided during the event. To get to the Beer Summit, you must use the main entrance on the corner of 12th Street closest to Filbert Street. Once inside, there will be someone to direct you to where you can find the Beer Summit within the market.
If you are driving, there will be on-street/meter parking and availability in the garage next to the Hilton Garden Inn (1100 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA). The garage entrace is on west side of 11th Street between Filbert and Arch. Discount tickets will be available at the registration table and can be used at the conclusion of the Beer Summit. To retreive your parking discount, simply give your ticket to the clerk when paying prior exiting the garage.
