My Nana is An Advocate
She takes me to Washington D.C.
I carry a sign that says
#HumansInvolved
My Nana is An Advocate
We went to our state capitol
I carried a sign that said
#PreKCounts
My Nana is An Advocate
We went to a community meeting
To plan to visit our city council members
Then we visited our city council members
I spoke about
#PlayingInMyCommunity
My Nana is An Advocate
She #Volunteers at The Paul Robeson House
I color pictures of the museum and Mr. Robeson when i’m there
I asked her, why is she an advocate
And she replied
“you may not understand today
But you will tomorrow.”
My Nana Is An Advocate
She takes us to so many places
Our favorite are The Please Touch Museum
And Free Library
I love my nana
#TheAdvocate
Alicia,
ReplyDeleteI love this so much! You are a powerful role model for your family. I think the photos add a lot to this story. In book form, this could use information bubbles and a glossary for children at the end that teaches them about these locations you reference and defining the role of advocate. This story has not been told and I think it's important for children to know the work advocates do. It's inspiring because it becomes a model for what they can do, even in "small" ways to continue progress in their own lives.
Thanks Krystal, hope we can work on making this happen, would love to work with you and Mark and get some books on in our classrooms and in libraries!!
